NuVolta × HP Poly FOCUS 6: A Customer Case Teardown of a Dual-End Wireless Charging System
2026-09-29

On June 16, HP Poly unveiled the Focus 6, a business-grade over-ear noise-cancelling headset, which officially went on sale in July.
The headset is positioned for professional business calling and deep hybrid active noise cancellation, and comes paired with a 2-in-1 desktop multifunctional wireless charging stand.
At a time when business headsets increasingly emphasize "drop-and-charge" convenience, the HP Poly Focus 6 is a highly representative case in point.

Focus 6 Wireless Charging Architecture: Coordinated Across Both Ends

HP and Poly positioned the product as a combination of professional business calling and hybrid active noise cancellation, paired with a 2-in-1 desktop wireless charging stand.
Rather than treating wireless charging as an isolated selling point, they split the function into two parallel chains:
  • The over-ear headset supports both USB-C wired charging and headband-suspension wireless charging.
  • The matching desktop stand supports the Qi2 wireless charging protocol and delivers up to 15W magnetic wireless fast charging for smartphones.

To take a closer look at the product's internal architecture, we invited ChargerLAB to teardown the kit:
  • Headset side: A circular wireless charging receiving coil is embedded inside the headband; beneath it sits the receiver PCB, with the NuVolta NU1668 as the core chip.
  • Stand side: The suspension bay at the top of the stand adopts the NuVolta NU1705A to wirelessly charge the headset's headband, while the front of the base houses NuVolta's MPP Module NU226, handling Qi2 wireless charging for smartphones.

Headset Side: The NU1668 Wireless Receiver Solution

With the outer cushioning rubber of the Focus 6 headband removed, a circular wireless charging receiving coil is visible at the center, tightly wound with Litz wire.
Beneath the coil sits the wireless charging receiver board, with a magnetic shielding sheet on the back and the NuVolta NU1668 wireless charging receiver IC on the front.
The NU1668 is a highly integrated, efficient wireless charging receiver IC designed for applications up to 50W output power. It integrates a synchronous rectifier and a programmable low-dropout (LDO) regulator, with the regulator providing a wide range of regulated output voltages. The chip supports bidirectional communication with the transmitter system through ASK and FSK, compliant with the WPC standard.
The NU1668 can also operate as a transmitter (Tx) to charge other receivers. An on-board 32-bit MCU can be customized and optimized for different applications and requirements, allowing programmability of output power, bidirectional communication schemes, system protection, status reporting, and error reporting. The chip also incorporates multiple protection mechanisms, including input under-voltage lockout (UVLO), short-circuit protection (SCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP), over-power protection (OPP), and over-temperature protection (OTP).
For an over-ear headset, the value of this chip lies in fitting complete functionality into a compact footprint.

Stand Side: NU226 + NU1705A

The NU226 handles Qi2; the NU1705A handles headset suspension charging.
The headset stand has a clean, minimal silhouette: a suspension crossbar at the top and a raised Qi2 wireless charging transmission area at the center of the base.
The module at the top of the stand, dedicated to charging the headset, is built around the NuVolta NU1705A wireless charging transmitter controller.
The NU1705A integrates a full-bridge power stage architecture covering a wide frequency range, together with a 32-bit MCU core. The power system integrates all key functional blocks, including high-efficiency power MOSFETs, low-EMI FET drivers, a bootstrap circuit, integrated 4.8V/1.8V LDOs, and lossless current-sensing technology.
The NU1705A's proprietary current-sensing circuit provides accurate current readings for foreign object detection (FOD), power measurement, in-band communication, Q-factor detection, and digital demodulation. The chip also features multiple protection mechanisms: input under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection, over-current protection, the proprietary Juggle Protection dynamic protection circuitry, and thermal shutdown—design choices that significantly improve overall system-level reliability. It comes in a 4 mm × 4 mm QFN package.
Opening up the base reveals a neatly arranged wireless charging main board and a Qi2 wireless charging module inside.
The Qi2 module uses NuVolta's MPP Module NU226, corresponding to the Qi2 magnetic wireless charging panel on the front of the base.
In actual testing, attaching an iPhone 17 Pro Max to the base triggers the wireless charging animation on the phone.
During charging, the indicator light on the front of the base lights up white. A POWER-Z KM003C reads the input at 11.953 V and 1.153 A, for an actual input power of approximately 13.79 W; a POWER-Z Q25 also confirms Qi2 wireless charging support.

Wireless Charging: A "Form Factor Imperative" for AI Terminals and Smart Headsets

As AI terminals and smart headsets evolve toward portless designs, miniaturization, and wearables, traditional pogo-pin contact charging runs into fatal pain points—oxidation, water ingress, and excessive space consumption.
Wireless charging has shifted from "a nice-to-have" to "a must-have"—it is the only path to fully sealed, port-free, water-resistant designs, and the foundational support for "frictionless power replenishment" in AI devices' high-frequency interactions.

The Technical Value of NuVolta Wireless Charging

Extreme Miniaturization
Devices such as AI-headset headbands, TWS charging cases, and desktop stands offer severely constrained internal space, and their main PCBs often must yield real estate to AI compute chips.
NuVolta's NU168X series delivers a complete wireless charging transmit-and-receive function within an extremely small footprint, perfectly accommodating the extreme stacking demands of AI wearables—achieving "complete wireless charging functionality within millimeter-scale space."
Dynamic Safety Protection
Smart rings, smart glasses, and smart headsets are typically worn close to the body, where the safety margin for error is extremely tight.
Both the NU1668 and the NU1705A from NuVolta integrate multiple protection mechanisms. The NU1705A additionally features Juggle Protection dynamic protection technology that responds in real time to abnormal conditions such as metallic foreign objects, eliminating thermal and safety hazards at the physical layer and providing reliable safeguards for body-worn AI devices.
Native Qi2 Ecosystem Support
Modern AI terminals are heavily dependent on cross-device collaboration with smartphones.
NuVolta's NU300X series wireless charging modules natively support the Qi2 magnetic standard, helping end products integrate seamlessly into the mainstream mobile ecosystem, achieving precise alignment, magnetic fast charging, and cross-device linkage to meet AI terminals' rigid demand for "always online, frictionless power replenishment."

In addition to HP Poly, NuVolta has earned the trust of major global brand customers including Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, Belkin, and vivo, having broken the wireless charging power record five times and achieving system efficiency above 90%.
If your product is a business conferencing headset, a gaming headset, a TWS earphone charging case, a desktop wireless charging stand, a Qi2 magnetic phone accessory, or the like, NuVolta can combine solutions using a similar architecture.
