iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Officially Go on Sale: AVS Fast Charging Becomes a Must-Have

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max officially went on sale at midnight today.


Beyond performance and camera upgrades, the iPhone 18 Pro improves charging: it can reach up to 50% in only 15 minutes.

Wired fast charging has also changed. Apple states on its official page that wired fast charging on the iPhone 18 Pro series requires a USB-C cable supporting 60W or more and a USB PD3.1 or later power adapter supporting Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS).

For power adapter and power bank manufacturers, AVS is becoming a key protocol capability for next-generation USB-C fast-charging products.

AVS is an adjustable voltage output mechanism introduced by USB-IF in the Extended Power Range (EPR) of USB PD 3.1. Its core goal is to solve power loss and heat caused by voltage mismatch during fast charging. Traditional fixed-voltage charging requires a second-step buck conversion inside the device. Each conversion loses energy as heat. Higher charging power means more heat and can trigger thermal throttling.


On the USB-C output side of power banks, NuVolta Technologies (NuVolta) has formed an AVS fast-charging portfolio centered on the NU1520 SoC. For magnetic power banks, NU171X3, a SoC integrating wireless charging and wired protocol capabilities, can pair with the NU681X Buck-Boost Charger power stage to support AVS. NU171X3 is a dual-mode SoC for power banks and wireless charging. It uses PD 3.1 Source + PPS to provide the protocol basis for AVS output and can pair with NU680X for complete AVS fast charging.
NU681X works with the NU1520 protocol SoC to complete PD 3.1 AVS dynamic voltage supply for the iPhone 18 Pro series.

  • Output power: NU1520 + NU6812 with external MOS can scale to 65W

  • Peak conversion efficiency: 97.8%; wired discharge efficiency 96% @ 45W

  • Temperature rise: only 64.7°C at 8V–15V/45W discharge, nearly 10°C lower than traditional solutions

  • Detection accuracy: voltage ±1%, current ±2%, NTC temperature ±2%, meeting strict new national standard requirements

Apple also provides a 40W (up to 60W) dynamic power adapter for the new iPhone.
