NuVolta launches 50W Automotive wireless charging solution

2021-08-25 Shanghai, China - NuVolta Technologies (hereinafter referred to as NuVolta) today announced the launch of the first high-power wireless charging reference design for the automotive market-NVTREF8040Q. This charging transmitter solution integrates high integration, high efficiency and high power into one, and is applied to the automotive pre-installation market. With the launch of NVTREF8040Q, it will provide customers with a more efficient, freer, and safer wireless charging solution.


1. NuVolta released the first 50W Automotive wireless charging solution

In recent years, with the rapid development of automotive smart cockpits, major automotive OEMs have noticed strong consumer demand for smart phone wireless charging functions. In order to cope with more changeable application scenarios in the car cockpit, the loading rate of wireless charging modules in cars is getting higher and higher.

In the domestic wireless charging market, as the domestic semiconductor supplier with the largest market share in the consumer market, NuVolta has followed the pace of international giants and launched the first in-vehicle high-power wireless charging solution-NVTREF8040Q in only half a year. Refers to the automotive market.

The reference design NVTREF8040Q released this time is equipped with NuVolta new generation of car wireless charging IC NU8040Q, and samples are currently being applied for. This release broke the monopoly of foreign companies in the car wireless charging industry, and NuVolta became the leader of Chinese-made semiconductor companies in this field.

2.1 The efficiency is as high as 77%, the highest in the industry

The efficiency of the NVTREF8040Q reference design for vehicle-mounted 50W wireless charging released by NuVolta this time is as high as 77%, reaching the highest level in China.

At the hardware level, in addition to the low internal resistance of the intelligent full-bridge IC NU8040, the NuVolta team also optimized the dead time of the MOS tube. At the software level, through the optimization of the charging logic and control strategy, the charging efficiency is further improved (in Figure 2), which reflects NuVolta powerful system construction capabilities.

Modular software platform and MCU

In order to avoid software development becoming a R&D bottleneck, based on years of deep experience in the field of wireless charging, NuVolta is committed to liberating customers' dependence on a dedicated wireless charging platform, and has developed a set of ultra-high adaptability software platforms, which have the following characteristics:

Modular Structure

The software platform adopts a layered structure, which separates and abstracts the bottom layer software and the application layer software. The bottom layer software is used to adapt to different MCU platforms. The application layer software realizes the wireless charging function. It can be reused on different MCU platforms, which can be greatly reduced. Development time for platform replacement.

Choose MCU platform as you like

Relying on the highly integrated intelligent full bridge, it greatly reduces the resource requirements for the MCU, and removes the strong binding between wireless charging applications and specific MCU platforms, allowing customers to freely choose familiar development platforms, such as general-purpose MCUs. Both global brands and domestic in-vehicle MCU products are available, which can help customers optimize the supply chain.

GUI interface debugging tool

The software platform supports debugging the Demo board through the GUI interface, and configures the coil type, number of coils, private protocol type, common MCU platform, power level, etc. through the graphical interface, so that customers can adapt at will. In addition, one-key calibration completes initialization, and prints intermediate variables during debugging to achieve status tracking. It is not a dream to quickly complete debugging.


3. Ultra-high precision Q value detection

Aiming at the difficulty of Q value detection in the wireless charging field, the NuVolta team creatively designed a hardware detection circuit that can increase the sensitivity of Q value detection by more than 30%. The specific increase value depends on different foreign objects, mobile phones and other detection objects. It can be increased by 87% (Figure 3)!

In addition to improving the sensitivity, the circuit design also greatly improves the consistency of the Q-value detection results. For this technology, NuVolta has applied for a patent.

4. High integration, extremely simplified circuit design

NuVolta wireless charging transmitter IC (Tx) has ultra-high integration and integrates all important functions in wireless charging applications: high-efficiency full-bridge, low-EMI FET drive, non-destructive current detection, high-precision Q-value detection, digital Demodulation modules, etc., allow customers to minimize the size of the solution, reduce the complexity of circuit design, greatly reduce the research and development cycle, and help products to market faster.
