NuVolta Technologies Inc announces that it has developed high efficiency wireless power solutions for wearable devices based on its integrated transmitter power IC NUT1000. These solutions operate at 6.78MHz with NuVolta’s proprietary controlled magnetic resonance technology, and achieve high efficiency with small receiver and transmitter coils suitable for wearable devices. In NuVolta’s wearable wireless power solutions, a transmitter takes 5V input commonly available from USB ports, and a receiver outputs regulated 5V power suitable for most battery chargers and small electronic devices. With a 43mm diameter TX coil and a 32mm RX coil as thin as 0.25mm, a NuVolta solution can maintain an fficiency well over 60% at an output range between 1W to 3W, enough for most demanding smart watches. The peak efficiency can reach 70% for 5V output. For smaller devices, NuVolta’s solution uses a smaller 15mm TX winding and a 10mm RX winding as thin as 0.25mm including magnetic shield, and maintains over 50% efficiency over an output power ranging from 1W to 2.5W, which can power a wide range of wearable devices. NuVolta’s TX winding and RX winding designs allow efficient power transfer with loose alignment between a transmitter and a receiver, which enables flexible and easy wireless charging experience for end users. NuVolta’s wireless power solutions will be on exhibition at CES 2016 in Las Vegas in the AirFuel Booth (#SL-4, South Hall).
NUT1000 is a power management IC integrating all key functional blocks to implement proprietary controlled magnetic resonance architecture in a power transmitter, including Power MOSFETs, gate drivers, current sensing, and I2C interface. It is in a 5mmx5mm QFN package, and can support an input voltage between 4.5V to 28V. This IC can be used for a wide range of applications, ranging from wearable devices with a fraction of a Watt to smart phones and laptop computers with tens of Watts.
“We believe a technology breakthrough is needed to create better wireless charging experience for end customers in consumer space.” said Michael Wang, CEO and a founder of the company. “Our highly integrated ICs remove all the big hurdles hindering the adoption of magnetic resonance wireless chargers for consumer devices, and enable wireless charging to achieve the same speed as wired charging. Our solutions give customers more choices in charging experiences, including wireless charging with spatial freedom and with metal cases.”NuVolta Technologies Inc is a startup specializing in high-frequency power management ICs and wireless power technologies.
